MWL NHS Charity, the official charity of Mersey and West Lancashire (MWL) Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, is calling on runners across Southport and beyond to lace up their trainers and take on this year’s Southport Seaside 10K. As the event’s Charity of the Year, it’s a fantastic opportunity to get involved, challenge yourself, and raise important funds to support patients and services locally.
Taking place on Sunday 2nd August 2026 along Southport’s iconic seafront, the 10K is open to all abilities, from seasoned athletes to first-time runners. This exciting partnership gives every participant the chance to make every step count, supporting NHS services and making a real difference for patients across hospitals, including Southport and Ormskirk.
MWL NHS Charity champions a wide range of initiatives to enhance patient experience, with every pound raised going towards meaningful projects and offering additional support for patients and their families. Most recently, the Charity funded bereavement memory boxes across the Trust following the loss of a loved one. These thoughtful boxes provide families with a safe place to keep treasured keepsakes and personal mementos.
Victoria Burrows, Head of Charity, said:
“Community support plays a vital role in what we do, and we’re incredibly grateful to be the Charity of the Year for the Southport Seaside 10K. Everyone who chooses to run and fundraise for us, together, we can make a real difference to patient care locally.”
The Southport Seaside 10K is known for its flat, fast course and welcoming atmosphere, making it ideal for those taking on their first 10K as well as those chasing a personal best.
Runners who sign up to support MWL NHS Charity will receive dedicated fundraising support, tips, and encouragement from the Charity Team throughout their journey, helping them make the most of their efforts. Places are limited, and early registration is encouraged.
