New Trust Launches

Today, Saturday 1st July 2023, St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust have formally come together as one single organisation.

The new Trust is called Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (MWL).

As one organisation, the Trust will serve a population of more than 600,000 people with a combined workforce of around 9,000 dedicated and skilled staff delivering acute hospital care, intermediate care, primary care, and community-based services. The names of our hospitals will not change.

Ann Marr OBE, Chief Executive said: “I am delighted to launch our new Trust Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, today. Our vision is to provide 5 star patient care to all of our patients across Merseyside and West Lancashire, and what an exciting time to be doing this in the week that the NHS celebrates its 75th Birthday.

I’d like to thank everyone involved in this process for all of their hard work over the last few years and look forward to working together for all of the communities we serve.”
